MONTEVERDE
CLOUD FOREST

A two hour, forty-five minute drive from the Villa, the Monteverde Cloud Forest hosts more than 3,200 species of plants, including 700 species of trees and 500 species of orchids, an estimated 425 species of birds, 120 species of mammals, 60 species of amphibians and 101 species of reptiles. Cloud forests were given their name because visitors will see a thin veil of clouds just below the canopy.  Clouds eventually dissipate into water on leaves and drip down watering the plants below. It is breathtaking to see from above.  Multiple hiking trails offer visitors breathtaking views.

LLANOS DE CORTEZ WATERFALL

A one-hour drive from the Villa, Llanos de Cortez Waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Costa Rica and a popular destination for travelers due its breathtaking scenery and a short hike to base of the waterfall.  The warm pool at the base of Llanos de Cortés is perfect for wading and swimming and a sandy area where hikers can sit and relax. Some guided tours combine hiking and sloth sighting with a stop at this waterfall. Travelers who explore the banks of the river may spot wildlife, such as frogs, tadpoles, and the common basilisk, known as the “Jesus Christ Lizard” for its ability to run across the surface of the water.

LA FORTUNA ARENAL
VOLCANO

A three-hour drive from the Villa, La Fortuna Arenal Volcano is one of seven historically active Costa Rican volcanoes.  It was Costa Rica's most active volcano until 2010 and one of the ten most active volcanoes in the world.  The volcano is one of the most visited destinations in Costa Rica with several hiking trails and viewpoints, making it a great activity at La Fortuna. It is also an excellent way to experience and see an active volcano up close.
